How do I schedule an appointment?
We make scheduling simple and flexible. Because we are a small practice, we do not have full-time front desk staff, but we offer easy online scheduling through a secure client portal.
To get started:
-
Fill out our Contact Form on our contact page
-
We’ll reach out by email or phone to guide you through the next steps.
-
Once established, you can request or manage appointments with your therapist.
If you call and reach our voicemail, don’t worry, we return messages as promptly as possible.

Why don’t you have office staff?
We intentionally operate as a small, client-centered practice to provide the highest quality of care in a personal and private setting. By not employing full-time front desk staff, we’re able to:
-
Keep overhead costs low, which helps us focus more resources on client care.
-
Protect your privacy, as your messages and scheduling requests are only handled by clinical staff.
-
Offer a more direct line of communication between you and your therapist, rather than going through multiple channels.
We know this may feel different from larger clinics, but we’ve found that this model allows us to remain flexible, focused, and deeply committed to the individual needs of our clients.

What if I’m in crisis and there’s no office staff available?
While we care deeply about our clients, Open Fields Mental Health is not a crisis center and we are not available 24/7. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please use one of the following resources:
-
Call 911 for immediate danger or emergencies.
-
Call or text 988 – the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (available 24/7).
-
Visit your nearest emergency room.
-
Contact Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority Crisis Services at (517) 263-8905 (available 24/7 in Lenawee County).
We recommend saving these numbers in your phone, especially if you’re actively experiencing distress. We are here to support you during scheduled therapy sessions, but emergencies are best handled by dedicated crisis response teams.
What happens at the first session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll review your intake paperwork, explore your goals for therapy, and give you a space to share your story at your own pace. You don’t need to prepare anything, just come as you are.
Do you offer in-person or Telehealth appointments?
We offer both:
-
In-Person Sessions at our Adrian, MI office
-
Telehealth Appointments for clients anywhere in Michigan via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform
You’re welcome to choose the format that fits best for your comfort and lifestyle.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is protected by law and professional ethics. Information shared in therapy is confidential, with only a few legal exceptions (which we will review during your intake session). We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all clients.
What insurance do you accept?
We work with several major insurance providers. If you're unsure whether we accept your plan, we’re happy to help you verify your benefits. We also accept private pay and many HSA/FSA cards.
What types of therapy do you provide?
We work with a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:
-
Anxiety and Depression
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Parenting and Family Stress
-
Couples and Relationship Issues
-
LGBTQ+ Affirming Support
-
Life Transitions, Grief, Work Stress
-
Child and Teen Therapy
-
Personality and Mood Disorders
You do not need a formal diagnosis to begin therapy. Many people start simply wanting to feel better or gain support.
How often do I need to attend therapy?
Session frequency is based on your needs, goals, and availability. Many clients start with weekly sessions and adjust over time. We’ll work together to create a schedule that works for you.
What if I’m not sure I connect with my therapist?
Finding the right fit is important. If after a few sessions it doesn’t feel like a good match, that’s okay. We can talk about your concerns and help connect you with another provider if needed, no pressure, no judgment.

What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?
That’s completely okay, and very common.
You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out to start therapy. Sometimes, people are simply looking for a safe space to talk, explore options, or get support through life changes. If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right step, we invite you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
This no-pressure conversation allows you to:
-
Ask questions about the therapy process
-
Share what’s been on your mind
-
See if we’re a good fit for your needs
Whether you're just exploring or ready to begin, we're here to meet you where you are.
